Thomas Hampson & The Philharmonics
Elbphilharmonie Opening Festival
Four Concerts in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall
This subscription series is a kind of “Best Of” from the various programmes on offer this season in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall. During the opening weeks, star baritone Thomas Hampson takes audiences back to the »Golden Times« of the turn of the nineteenth century: with songs from the Viennese Fin de Siècle to music from New York of the 1930s. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie teams up with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, much beloved by Hamburg audiences. Together they play Antonín Dvořák’s piano concerto. Also, you can experience Gustavo Dudamel – the »hottest conductor on the planet« according to The New York Times – with the kick-off concert of his mammoth project »¡Viva Beethoven!«. And finally, this subscription series includes the opening concert of the Elbphilharmonie’s »Transatlantic« festival where Catalan viol player Jordi Savall takes you on a voyage from Mali to Venezuela.
