West-Eastern Divan Orchestra / Daniel Barenboim
Schubert / Wagner / Beethoven
Many audience favourites return to the Elbphilharmonie: Daniel Barenboim with his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Piotr Anderszewski with sonatas by Beethoven and Schubert, and cellist Kian Soltani, last season’s Artist in Residence
Daniel Barenboim has made history, as a conductor, pianist and as a political visionary. With his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Barenboim continues to advocate for peace in the Middle East. He opens Subscription 5 with three monumental orchestral works of great historical significance. The remaining concerts are equally impressive: Piotr Anderszewski, with his velvety touch, turns to Brahms masterpieces and Beethoven’s visionary final piano sonata. Paavo Järvi appears with the Tonhalle Orchestra performing Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, including the heavenly »Adagietto«. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic embarks on a Scandinavian journey and brings a reunion with Kian Soltani, Elbphilharmonie Artist in Residence 2025/26. For the final concert in the subscription series, Thomas Hengelbrock gathers his ensembles and a first-rate cast of singers for Schumann’s adaptation of »Faust«.
