»Welcome to Hamburg. It’s a pleasure to receive you at the Port of Hamburg.« At the Willkomm-Höft ship greeting station on the Lower Elbe, international ships approaching Hamburg have been hailed with that message in their own language for many decades. At the Elbphilharmonie, musicians now also have a new mooring in the Hanseatic city. They come from every corner of the globe for the »Around the World« series – from Portugal, Brazil, Mali, Finland, Armenia and Syria – and bring with them the diverse musical traditions of their homelands.

Carminho sings swinging Bossa Nova; Rokia Traoré mixes the traditional music of Mali with fresh guitar sounds; Kimmo Pohjonen performs a wild accordion show; and the Gurdjieff Ensemble from Armenia, in a joint concert with the Syrian trio Hewar, highlights the close links between these two nations.
