Gamelan-Ensemble Sekar Kenanga
Final Performance
Dive into a centuries-old tradition with Indonesian gongs: welcome to the Gamelan Ensemble!
Registration currently not possible
With the Gamelan Ensemble, the Elbphilharmonie brings south-eastern Asia to Hamburg. Invented on the islands of Java and Bali, the exotic sounds of the gongs and drums continue to captivate Western ears to this day. This special music makes it own appearance at the Elbphilharmonie: participants learn how to play on a unique, 70-year-old set of gamelan instruments, under the professional guidance of the experienced musician Steven Tanoto. During rehearsals, focus is placed more on collective harmony than individual performance.
