They have been part of the Elbphilharmonie tradition since it opened five years ago: the New Year's concerts given by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. What better place to celebrate the New Year than way up above the River Elbe, surrounded by lively, festive music and lots of people in a good mood? Chief conductor Alan Gilbert plays early 20th century music to accompany the New Year's Eve dancing. While Ravel and Strauss poke fun at Viennese cheerfulness, soprano Julia Bullock delights with American vibes.

About the programme
For the 2022/23 musical party, chief conductor Alan Gilbert invited the acclaimed American soprano Julia Bullock to join the celebrations. She brings just the right casual flair to the Elbphilharmonie with songs by George Gershwin and by Chicago composer Margeret Bonds, who is far too little-known in this country. The music ranges from »Summertime« to »Winter Moon«.
From Strauss to Ravel: Glitter and glamour
The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra provides the right dose of glitter and glamour with colourful orchestral sounds by Richard Strauss, Lili Boulanger and Maurice Ravel. Here, the music ranges from vibrant »Rosenkavalier« waltzes through the flowery scent of a spring morning to the apocalyptic three-four time of »La valse«.
You can look forward to musical fireworks in the Grand Hall!
