Fazıl Say

Fazıl Say / Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra

Fazıl Say appears both as composer and pianist in the Grand Hall, presenting his own Sixth Symphony alongside evergreens like Gershwin’s thrilling »Rhapsody in Blue«

With this programme, Fazıl Say brings his 2025 artist portrait at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival to a dazzling close. Accompanied by the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra – the leading orchestra in his home city of Istanbul – the celebrated pianist and composer performs Maurice Ravel‘s virtuosic Piano Concerto in G Major and George Gershwin‘s rousing »Rhapsody in Blue«, both set in contrast to his own Symphony No. 6. Composed in 2022 to mark the centenary of founding of the Republic of Turkey, his symphony bears the subtitle »A 100-Year-Old Child«. The name symbolises Turkey itself, which, despite its 100 years of existence, still remains a »child« in the composer‘s eyes – young, still learning and brimming with future potential.
