Symphoniker Hamburg / James Feddeck
Golijov / Rachmaninov
»Music has the power to build castles of sound in our memory.« Osvaldo Golijov was born in Buenos Aires in 1960 as the son of eastern-European immigrants with Jewish roots. After studying in Jerusalem, he migrated to the USA. His 1994 composition »The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind« is an emotional work featuring echoes of Klezmer – at times mesmerising and spherical, at times turbulent and full of despair – and boasts a terrific musical sunrise in the finale. The soloist is the clarinettist David Orlowsky, of whom it has been said he »makes his instrument tell stories, speaks through it, and makes it laugh, sob and scoff gently.«
