»Paris at the beginning of the twentieth century: Joaquín Turina meets Isaac Albéniz after the premiere of a work by Turina that was strongly influenced by the French style. Albéniz has recognised the talent of the young Spaniard and encourages him to engage more intensively with the music of his native land – Andalusian folk music.
Turina well and truly embraces his Spanish heritage in his Piano Quartet. The Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera was also influenced by the music of his country, the Argentinian pampa. The rhythmic element that has its roots in Argentine dances can be felt very clearly in his String Quartet No. 2. The second half of the concert takes us back to twentieth-century France with Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quintet No. 2. Despite being almost completely deaf, Fauré succeeded in creating a work infused with youthful passion and vigour, while also expressing a balanced sense of calm and tranquillity.« (Anne von Twardowski)
