Powerful symbol for peace

On 11 and 12 April, two fundraising concerts for Ukraine will take place in the Elbphilharmonie – to set a powerful symbol for peace and democracy and to actively support the people of this war-torn country. All the artists are waiving their fees and the Stiftung Elbphilharmonie is footing the organisational costs – 100 per cent of the ticket receipts will be going to the »Aktion Deutschland Hilft« charity. Tickets for the concerts count as a tax-deductible donation confirmation.

The first concert is presented by the Elbphilharmonie Audience Orchestra – one of the concert hall’s most popular join-in ensembles, which brings together committed amateurs to develop and present sophisticated programmes twice a year in the Grand Hall. Under conductor Michael Petermann, the director of the Hamburg Conservatory, they have prepared a diverse programme touching on various eras in music history. The voices in Johann Sebastian Bach’s »Musical Offering« interweave artfully, while Igor Stravinsky’s high-energy piano concerto borrows from Baroque, jazz and ragtime. In contrast, 43 percussion instruments are involved in Edgard Varèse’s »Ionisation«, and the finale – Piotr Tchaikovsky’s »Serenade«, a homage to his idol Mozart – is replete with lush string sounds.

Donations can also be made directly to the joint donations account of »Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft« and »Aktion Deutschland Hilft«:
