Pulling out all the stops

»I love to surprise people!« exclaims Anna Lapwood. Audiences adore her unconventional approach to playing the organ. Millions of fans watch her midnight sessions from the Royal Albert Hall and follow her videos on TikTok and Instagram when she raves about the endless range of sounds an organ can produce and chats about the tricky aspects of playing such a complex instrument. Can she play »Pirates of the Caribbean« on the organ? »Of course,« says the British social media star. In her videos, she tells her viewers all about the high standard of musicianship required from organists usually hidden somewhere up in the lofty heights of a church. At the Elbphilharmonie, Lapwood will take a seat centre-stage to play an organ she already knows well from previous »Elbphilharmonie Sessions« performances. »It’s an absolutely amazing place to play. I love the way I can create the illusion of playing in a huge cathedral by experimenting with the way the sound fills the concert hall.«
