Simply Organ

The organ at the Elbphilharmonie is a true experience. The spectrum ranges from organ master Bach to Holst’s monumental »Planets« in an organ arrangement. Titular organist Iveta Apkalna congratulates Arvo Pärt on his 90th birthday

The Elbphilharmonie organ is not only an integral component of the Grand Hall’s architecture, it is also a firm feature of the musical programme. Titular organist Iveta Apkalna celebrates music from her Baltic homeland, Christian Schmitt pays homage to Romanticism, while Bernard Foccroulle juxtaposes Johann Sebastian Bach with the Franco-Flemish tradition. And in the final concert of the series, the organ literally takes off when Mari Fukumoto presents an organ version of Gustav Holst’s orchestral work »The Planets«.
