»Europa or America?« The best answer to this habitual question among jazz fans is: Europe AND America. Jazz has its roots in the USA – this is where it draws its strongest impulses. Thus many of the great improvisers this season come from the motherland of jazz. In addition to Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, John Zorn and the SFJAZZ Collective, who return for guest appearances, possibly the best big band in the world celebrates its Elbphilharmonie debut: the Maria Schneider Orchestra.
