Les Siècles / Isabelle Faust / Alexander Melnikov / François-Xavier Roth
Ligeti: Concert Românesc & Violin Concerto / Mozart: Piano Concerto & »Jupiter« Symphony
Classical gems like Mozart’s »Jupiter« Symphony and Strauss’s »Also sprach Zarathustra« presented by exciting young conductors such as Klaus Mäkelä and Raphaël Pichon: perfect programmes for newcomers to the Elbphilharmonie
Mozart’s popular »Jupiter« Symphony starts this latest beginners’ concert series, which is a wonderful amalgamation of greatest hits from throughout music history: Mendelssohn’s oratorio »Elias«, Mahler’s »Symphony No. 4« and Strauss’s bombastic symphonic poem »Also sprach Zarathustra«, made famous in Stanley Kubrick’s classic film »2001: A Space Odyssey«. Two of the most exciting young conductors of the moment – Klaus Mäkelä and Raphaël Pichon – are also gracing the podium. The closing concert is an opportunity to experience a now rare performance by Portugal’s grande dame of the piano, Maria João Pires.
