Branford Marsalis Quartet & Friends
»The Hungarian Folk Project«
For all those who love variety: jazz, minimal music, Baroque music with dance and a dynamic orchestra that really shakes things up
The Adventurer subscription is just the thing for anyone who likes to discover new things on a regular basis, as this concert package is guaranteed to keep boredom at bay: the great saxophonist Branford Marsalis get the programme going by showing that jazz can also be played with bagpipes, violins and accordion. The up-and-coming Chineke! Orchestra, which is largely made up of people of colour and members of ethnic minorities, plays fresh, exciting orchestral music in keeping with its mission to renew classical music. Known for their ultra-dynamic live performances, the legendary Bang on a Can All-Stars will then bring the composition »Steel Hammer« by Pulitzer Prize winner Julia Wolfe to the stage. It is based on the fairytale ballad »John Henry« about an African-American worker who declares war on the machines with his steel drill. Finally, Phantasm, the »best viola da gamba ensemble in the world« (BR Klassik), concludes the subscription series with music and dance dedicated to English Baroque music.
