Munich Philharmonic / Tugan Sokhiev
Bruckner: Symphony No. 8
Top orchestras present great symphonies by Tchaikovsky, Mahler and Bruckner. It also gets dramatic with Mozart’s opera »Idomeneo« – led by the outstanding conductor René Jacobs
Just a few days after the opening, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was the first international orchestra to perform at the Elbphilharmonie in 2017. Now it returns to Hamburg with great symphonic music by Gustav Mahler. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from Amsterdam is also one of the most important orchestras in the world. Klaus Mäkelä will become its new chief conductor in 2027 and is already working closely with the orchestra. Mahler is now also on the programme for their joint guest appearance in Hamburg. The Munich Philharmonic kicks off its programme with one of Mahler’s most important trailblazers: Anton Bruckner with his monumental Eighth Symphony. René Jacobs strikes a completely different note with Mozart’s opera »Idomeneo« on period instruments, before things get rather solemn towards the end of the season when Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads his orchestra from Montréal through Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony – entitled the »Pathétique Symphony«.
