Balthasar Neumann Choir and Orchestra

Great works for choir and orchestra are their speciality: Thomas Hengelbrock, his two period performance ensembles and top guest conductors continue their concert series in Hamburg

Thomas Hengelbrock founded the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles over 30 years ago; they have been a firm favourite for historically informed and highly dynamic interpretations ever since, and have gained a permanent place in Hamburg. The conductor loves to use the score and contemporary documents to delve deep into a work and its era, as he does now with Rossini’s »Petite messe solennelle« – a work which is not small at all. Lionel Sow is on the rostrum twice this season: he is a big name on the French choral scene, and the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles will be working more closely with him in future.
