Wagner: Siegfried / Sir Simon Rattle
Wagner
Adventure comedy in the enchanted forest
For an epic work like Wagner’s »Siegfried« you need an epic line-up. So it’s good that Sir Simon Rattle and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra have the perfect cast of singers at their side. Is there anything that could get the hearts of Wagner fans beating faster than names such as Simon O’Neill, Anja Kampe and Michael Volle?
In Georg Nigl, Peter Hoare and Franz-Josef Selig, three other leading character singers also feature. The third part of the »Ring des Nibelungen« cycle is a blend of comedy and fairy-tale in which young Siegfried is itching to get away from his beastly foster father Mime. With the freshly repaired sword Notung in his hand, he storms out into the forest in order to learn fear from Fafner the dragon. But instead, he learns the language of the animals, and new, far more exciting adventures take their course…
