Description

Would-be revolutionary, guru, intellectual maverick and taboo-breaker, a man prone to ecstatic outbursts: no adjective seems too colourful or extreme to describe him, Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis, who has built up a musical empire all his own with his unusual ensemble musicAeterna in the Russian town of Perm. Even reviewers of Germany’s quality press (FAZ, Die Zeit), which have claimed that his rebelliousness is just a pose, cannot resist the appeal of his fascinating musicality and the dazzling, larger-than-life personality with which he captivates musicians and audiences alike. Just the way Currentzis makes the quavers of the overture glide through the string section at breakneck speed like a string of pearls in his »Figaro« recording – this is great art. Hard to imagine what new flights of fancy his baton will coax from the orchestra in Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony!
