Description

Sir Simon Rattle takes to the conductor’s podium in the Elbphilharmonie for the first time in his new role as music director of the London Symphony Orchestra, and he brings with him a highly diverse programme. The former chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic is giving two concerts in the Grand Hall. In the first, Schubert’s monumental »Unfinished Symphony« is performed alongside Gustav Mahler’s »Rückert-Lieder«, with Czech mezzo-soprano and former Elbphilharmonie artist in residence Magdalena Kožená taking on the vocal part. The second half of the concert features Baroque music by the two contemporaries Handel and Rameau. On the following day, the UK’s leading orchestra turns to the classical modernist period, with soloist Isabelle Faust.
