The »Pianomania« series presents piano music with a certain twist. In the last season, everything revolved around the variation. This time, the diverse musical characteristics of the prelude is presented on four evenings. In the course of a century, the prelude underwent a development from being purely introductory to becoming an independent composition.

The spectrum covers the motorised preludes of Johann Sebastian Bach's »Das wohltemperierte Klavier«, poetic miniatures such as Frédéric Chopin's »Préludes« and the chromatically dazzling pieces by Olivier Messiaen, whose works have such programmatic titles as »Die Taube« (The Dove) or »Ein Spiegelbild im Wind« (A Reflection in the Wind). Some rarities can also be heard, such as Ottorino Respighi's little known »Drei Präludien über gregorianische Melodien« (Three Preludes on Gregorian Melodies).

The pieces are performed by four young virtuosi, who, due to the outstanding technical ability and musical depth of their interpretations, have already attained international recognition.
