Surrounded by drums, cymbals and other objects – with which they produce sound in every conceivable way –, these musicians usually sit in the background and tirelessly provide the right groove. Many drummers are not only true artists of coordination, but also highly creative composers who skilfully showcase their instrument in their own songs. It is high time to bring some of the hottest jazz drummers from the USA into the spotlight and showcase the full diversity of the drums – from the R'n'B-infused sounds of Makaya McCraven to the improvisational-experimental music of Allison Miller’s Lux Quartet.
