Four continents, four sound stations: the »Around the World« series is a kind of cruise for the ears. Flamenco star Diego El Cigala, with his impressive voice, carries the Andalusian fire to the plains of the South American pampa, the ballrooms of Buenos Aires and the promenades of Havana. Angélique Kidjo, the undisputed new »Mama Africa« as well as a global citizen from New York, provides a few surprises with her new programme, in which she reinterprets the legendary album »Remain in Light« by new wave pioneers Talking Heads. The Punch Brothers elevate bluegrass, the old music of the Appalachian Mountains, to a new level of acoustic pop and classical music – with virtuosic mandolins and falsetto singing. And with its powerful and sentimental milonga, the Orquesta Típica El Afronte – one of the most outstanding tango ensembles of our time – builds a bridge between the banks of the Rio de la Plata in South America and the port city of Hamburg.
