Alexandre Kantorow is a real celebrity in the piano world: if the young Frenchman was still an insider tip a few years ago, he has been the talk of the town since his victory at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019. The Austrian press recently hailed him as »one of the best pianists in the world«, The Telegraph called him a »poet at the piano« and the New York Times testified that he would far exceed all high expectations. Alexandre Kantorow has already caused a sensation at the Elbphilharmonie on several occasions. All the greater the joy that he now returns as an Artist in Residence to perform a whole series of concerts: as a soloist with a symphony orchestra, as a chamber musician in a top-class piano quartet and with an exciting recital programme in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.

Kantorow places a special focus on the piano music of the Romantic period – repertoire for which he has long been considered one of the most sought-after interpreters. It is not without reason that he is often referred to as »Liszt reincarnated«, as he proves time and again with virtuoso and highly emotional interpretations.

Twice he dedicates concerts to the Romantic piano composer Brahms: under the direction of Teodor Currentzis, he performs Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto, and he makes his Laeiszhalle debut with Brahms’ piano quartets – a stellar chamber music experience that not only Brahms fans should not pass over.

The pianist kicks off his residency with the Munich Philharmonic and Sergei Rachmaninov’s ingenious, exuberant »Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini«. For the crowning finale, Alexandre Kantorow performs Camille Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
