I translate everything I see or experience into music. I am particularly fascinated by the theory of parallel worlds.
With »Multiversum«, a piece specially commissioned by and for the Elbphilharmonie, Peter Eötvös explores the possibilities of the organ and the Hammond organ. Simultaneously, he complies to the wish of the Elbphilharmonie’s titular organist, Iveta Apkalna, of more concertos for organ and orchestra. With this scoring alone – perfectly implemented by organists Iveta Apkalna and László Fassang – Eötvös opens up parallel worlds.
Under Eötvös’s own baton, his »Multiversum« entered into dialogue with three modern classics on this evening – all works without exception that gave the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra the opportunity to display its virtuosity and tonal diversity to impressive effect.
