World of Instruments: New Musical Notation
Workshop for Adults
How music looks when written down has changed significantly numerous times since people started penning notes more than 1,000 years ago. However, be it early medieval neumes or the free notation of the present age, the intention has always been the same: making music visible so that it can be passed on and performed.
If you have ever wanted to create your own musical notation, you can now do exactly that in the »New Musical Notation« workshop, which is specially aimed at adults interested in music. Taking the contemporary music icon John Cage as a starting point, alternatives to the established notation format are discussed and developed. Afterwards there will be a chance to put that into practice on instruments brought in by participants or provided in the class.
