Description

Tindersticks is one of the major experimental pop ensembles of our time. Founded in Nottingham in 1991 and famous for a series of dark, majestic albums, its sound is characterised by the sombre baritone of singer Stuart A. Staples over the sophisticated accompaniment of the band with instruments ranging from a Rhodes piano, brass and wind instruments to a glockenspiel. Tindersticks’ lyrics have always been closely associated with literature; projects have involved film, for example with French director Claire Denis.

The band’s newest project is the live film score »Minute Bodies – The Intimate World of F. Percy Smith«, a homage to pioneering filmmaker Frank Percy Smith (1880-1945). Smith developed various micro-cinematic techniques to capture nature’s secrets in action in the early part of the 20th century. An interpretative 55min edit, directed by Stuart A. Staples, combines Smith’s original footage with a new contemporary score by Tindersticks (with Thomas Belhom and Christine Ott) to create a hypnotic, immersive concert experience. The second part of the evening will be a set of Tindersticks songs that suits the extended line-up of the band.
