Description

Rupert Julian’s silent film classic »The Phantom of the Opera« transforms the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall into a movie palace, complete with impressive cinema organ.

Austrian organist and highly experienced silent film accompanist Franz Danksagmüller has exactly 4,765 pipes at his disposal for the performance. Just as was the custom at the time this cinematic masterpiece was first released, the soloist makes do without a score and improvises freely to the film. Who needs Andrew Lloyd Webber?
