It is impossible to imagine contemporary jazz without him: Michael Wollny is a bit of a pop star and a bit of a contrarian, taking inspiration from Robert Schumann and Björk alike, sometimes composing complex pieces, and sometimes catchy ones. At the Elbphilharmonie the »consummate master of the piano« (FAZ) can now be heard solo.
