To mark their 30th anniversary, the junior orchestra from the Germany’s capital take on the challenge of a true heavyweight from the late nineteenth century: Bruckner’s monumental Ninth Symphony. Despite working on it tirelessly until his death in 1896, the composer left his final work unfinished. At over an hour long and with a very free harmony for its time, the piece pointed clearly towards the dawn of modernism. With Stravinsky’s »Le sacre du printemps«, which caused a scandal in its day, the orchestra then goes on to show what form Bruckner’s harmonic experiments would later assume in the twentieth century.
