The name Holon is derived from the Greek and means »a whole that is part of another whole«. That sounds rather academic, it’s true – but it actually supplies a pretty exact description of the way the Holon Trio sees itself. The three musicians see themselves as a musical whole: catchy melodies are combined with complex rhythms, while free improvisation alternates with passages that are fully composed. Nonetheless, the trio’s songs, many of which they write together, manage to pull off the balancing act of making difficult things sound rather easy.
