»Elektrokohle – Von Wegen« / Documentary About the Einstürzende Neubauten
The time: 21 December 1989. The place: East Berlin, capital city of the GDR. Einstürzende Neubauten, the West Berlin band, gives its first concert in East Berlin around the time of reunification. Twenty years later, the film director Uli M Schueppel looks back on this extraordinary day in German pop music history.

The Abaton Kino opened its doors in 1970 and is located in the immediate vicinity of the University of Hamburg. It is regarded as one of Germany’s first arthouse movie theatres, alongside Bremen’s Cinema Ostertor. Today, the cinema shows mostly current independent films, usually in original language with subtitles, as well as classics, documentaries and thematic series.
Take metro bus 4 or 5 to the stop Rentzelstraße or Grindelhof, then approx. 3 minutes by foot
Underground line U1 to Hallerstraße, then approx. 8 minutes by foot
Overground train (S-Bahn) to Dammtor, then two stops with metro bus 4 or 5
The Abaton-Kino is housed in an old building that is over 100 years old, therefore wheelchair users cannot access the building without assistance. The in-house service team is happy to offer assistance where needed. Toilets are also not wheelchair accessible.
One wheelchair space is available in the Großes Kino (large screening room) and is located at ground level. Registration by phone is required: +49 40 413 203 20.
The other two screening rooms are located on the first floor and are not accessible to wheelchair users without assistance.
