Failing beautyfully
Usually, (classical) concerts begin with the instruction to switch off your mobile phone. »Confessions« is different: here it’s all about chatting with the others in the audience via WhatsApp chat. The musical setting is provided by delicate baroque melodies by John Dowland and chansons by Kurt Weill, in which things can get a little naughty.
But what do you chat about during a concert? Under the title »Confessions«, participants talk about failure - without having to reveal their own name. The written conversation goes far beyond small talk and invites us to take a break from the many crises and chaos of our time.
The mobile phone doesn’t provide distraction here, but rather exchange, closeness, connection and perhaps the courage to come out of your shell. If you tend to keep thoughts or feelings about failure to yourself in everyday life – here they can find their way, supported by the intense music that sets precisely these feelings to music.
This makes »Confessions« the perfect prelude to the song recital with soprano Sabine Devieilhe, who dedicates herself to songs by and about women from the Romantic period to Édith Piaf.

Location : Halle 424
Halle 424 was built in the 1950s as part of Germany’s biggest freight transhipment terminal and has been defying the storm tides ever since. The industrial landmark has provided a home for artistic projects since 2014. As a venue for classical and jazz concerts, Halle 424 is playing an important part in the transformation of the Oberhafen (upper port) into a creative quarter.
