This summer, the audience can embark on a journey into the fairytale world of the Orient. The story of the brave Scheherazade, who tells stories night after night to the cruel Sultan Shahriar to save herself from execution and ultimately wins his heart, has inspired for centuries. With Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite Scheherazade and excerpts from Nielsen's stage music Aladdin, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic brings two colorful works full of exotic flair to Schleswig-Holstein.
Like Scheherezade demonstrates to the Sultan, fearlessness is also required for the interpretation of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 1, which is one of the most popular and most recorded works in the genre worldwide, not least because of its brilliant opening with its thunderous cascades of chords.
Alice Sara Ott is the right person for the job, as she and the Russian orchestra will bring the necessary courage and deep understanding of the composer's work along with them from St. Petersburg. »One should be willing to take some risks on stage,« says the German-Japanese pianist in an interview. »Creating unique moments in a concert is more important to me than playing it safe.«
