Children’s Concerts from All over the World

Three concert streams for children – from Stockholm, Porto and Hamburg.

Come on, let’s take a trip! The big European concert halls invite children all over Europe to join them on a musical journey – with three beautifully-staged online concerts in different languages.

The first stop is the Konserthuset Stockholm, where you can get to know the many exciting instruments of the orchestra. After that, the journey goes farther south, to Portugal, where the Casa da Música Porto plays the wonderful Carnival of the Animals for you. The last stage of the trip ends at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, where magical dream worlds await you. But see for yourself!

An ECHO project

The concert streams are a joint project of the European Concert Hall Organisation, or ECHO for short. ECHO is a network of Europe’s leading concert halls, which have joined forces to cooperate on shared initiatives and ideas.

TRILLS AND DRAGON EARS

Is it possible to see music, and to hear a picture? Yes: if you listen carefully in Trills and Dragon Ears, the double bass can be heard growling like a bear and the oboe gets a cobra to dance in Samarkand.

Lennart Hellsing is one of Sweden's most beloved children’s book authors. His wonderful story »Trills and Dragon Ears« helps us to become familiar with the many different instruments of the symphony orchestra. In the verses, we encounter everything from a knight’s tower to expansive beaches, dragon’s caves and the seasons, all set to the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Swedish composer Hugo Alfvén.

The Carnival of the Animals

The lion, the king of the jungle, opens the parade. He is followed by the hens and rooster, quick animals, slow tortoises, a huge elephant, leaping kangaroos, slithering snakes, characters with long ears, the cuckoo and other birds, the pianists, the fossils and the swan. »The Carnival of the Animals« is one of the most entertaining and charming works in the classical repertoire and an excellent way of finding out about the instruments in the orchestra.
