Description

To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, the Elbphilharmonie turns its focus to the country’s influential musical landscape. For centuries, countless influences have converged in this cultural melting pot, giving rise to new musical styles. Jazz drummers Terri Lyne Carrington and Jonathan Blake are both featured, bringing not only their music but also powerful messages on freedom, equality and racism. Chris Thile and his Punch Brothers represent American folk music with bluegrass, a country style they enrich with elements of pop and grunge. Guitarist Marc Ribot returns following his »Reflektor« festival (2024), once again striking political notes with his »Sounds of Resistance«. And finally, Bryce Dessner (The National) joins a percussion ensemble to perform a programme of music by minimal music pioneer Steve Reich, including a world premiere co-commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie.
