The Laeiszhalle’s Energetic Orchestra

Symphoniker Hamburg celebrated its 60th birthday on 10 December.

The Laeiszhalle’s orchestra in residence celebrated its 60th birthday with a full house on Sunday, 10 December. Ion Marin conducted the concert and Martha Argerich, widely regarded as one of the greatest pianist of the 20th century, gave a miraculous performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. Argerich surpised the orchestra with a rendition of Happy Birthday, with the audience later joining in. Founded in 1957 as a result of an amalgamation of a number of Hamburg’s orchestras, the Symphoniker Hamburg has long been considered an essential component of the music scene in Hamburg and was appointed resident orchestra of the Laeizshalle following the opening of the Elbphilharmonie.

We are extremely proud of this orchestra, which the musicians created with energy, courage and love for music beyond comparison.
