NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra

Travelling through time and space: Gustav Holst’s »Planets« and John Williams’s »Star Wars« in the Grand Hall.

The »Planets« was premiered in 1918, and up until today the work inspires film composers from all over the world, especially those working in the fields of science fiction and space adventure. For example, John Williams, who was inspired by Gustav Holst's planet portraits to pen down his soundtrack to »Star Wars« 60 years later.

As part of the Hamburg International Music Festival, Krzysztof Urbański and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra invite you to compare these works – by directly juxtaposing one with the other. The »Planets« cycle is followed by a performance of the »Star Wars« suite by John Williams.

The concert will also be shown live on the Elbphilharmonie forecourt: free admission and refreshing drinks on offer!
