When Christoph von Dohnányi returned to the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra's podium last season after a long time away, the audience was reluctant to let him go away again after the concert. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long for the next comeback: a few months after his 90th birthday, von Dohnányi is back on the Elbphilharmonie stage.
The highlight of the evening is Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's highly emotional »Pathétique« – one of the most popular symphonies of all time. In contrast, the audience can enjoy Charles Ives’s orchestral miniature »The Unanswered Question« and György Ligeti's Double Concerto for Flute, Oboe and Orchestra before the interval. Maestro von Dohnányi conducted the latter's world premiere almost 50 years ago.
