My Polish Heart

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Krzysztof Urbański and Piotr Anderszewski perform a Polish programme.

Written in 1976, Polish composer Henryk Górecki’s »Symphony of Sorrowful Songs« made it to the pop charts for a few weeks in 1992. As part of the concert series of Polish music, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra now performs the erstwhile smash hit for the first time.

Before the interval we hear a special Polish work: »Symphonie concertante« by Karol Szymanowski – a veritable piano concerto under the alias »Symphony No. 4«. Soloist is Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski, who has advocated for the rarely-heard music of the late Romantic, Polish composer Szymanowski for years now.
