Wolf Kerschek's composition »My Polish Heart« describes his first trip to Poland: »My grandmother was a Polish translator, my father was born in Pomerania. I don’t speak the language myself and yet I felt a close bond with the country.« This encounter with Polish folk culture put in motion a special chain of associations: »Vladislav Sendecki is my favourite pianist and I discovered certain musical parallels. So I composed a piano concerto for him and the NDR Bigband. Together we named it ›My Polish Heart‹.« The name of Kerschek’s work is now taken as the title for a whole series of concerts beginning in November that focuses on Poland as a musical nation.
Geir Lysne's latest project was inspired by Krzysztof Penderecki's compositions – »About Penderecki«. Penderecki's collaborations with jazz musicians are legendary; his piece »Actions« was a show-stopper at the Donaueschingen Festival.
