Whether they used a sledgehammer or a washing machine, the »inspired dilettantes« led by Blixa Bargeld were known in the 1980s for playing music on just about anything. The most legendary of Germany’s avantgarde pop groups showed whether they could live up to their name during the opening weeks of the Elbphilharmonie: using garbage cans, metal bathtubs and drainpipes, the Einstürzende Neubauten put the Grand Hall through a somewhat special acoustic test.
In response to strong demand, the Einstürzende Neubauten gave not one but two concerts on 21 January in the Grand Hall as part of the Elbphilharmonie Opening festivities.
The 21:00 concert was streamed live online. The video on demand is unfortunately no longer available.
