5 Years of Elbphilharmonie 5 years ago the Elbphilharmonie opened its doors – it’s time to celebrate! From 9–17 January with Simon Rattle, Iveta Apkalna, Charles Lloyd and many more.

Happy Birthday, Elbphilharmonie!

The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg celebrates the fifth anniversary of its opening on 11 January 2022. Admittedly a modest anniversary, but there is always reason to celebrate! After all, the Elbphilharmonie proves evening after evening that the live experience of music surrounded by impressive architecture can inspire everyone and anyone and also influence the character of an entire city.

With the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg has firmly established itself as a first-rate city of culture. And that is being celebrated: from 9  to 17 January 2022 with a series of concerts that demonstrate the variety and quality of concert programmes for which the concert hall has always stood. The guest list includes Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Jordi Savall, Charles Lloyd, John Scofield and many others. The birthday concert on 11 January featuring the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra under the baton of Alan Gilbert will be broadcast live.

The Elbphilharmonie understands culture to be far more than just music – the light art installation »Breaking Waves« by internationally sought-after studio DRIFT that showcases the concert hall in a spectacular way is a testament to this. The installation is supported by the Freundeskreis Elbphilharmonie + Laeiszhalle e.V.. The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) dedicates a four-month exhibition to the artist duo.
