Elbphilharmonie Concerts 2010/2011
The artistic direction of the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle are presenting their second annual programme for Hamburg. There will be excellent and internationally acclaimed artists, inventive concerts and thrilling concepts, as well as events with their finger firmly on the pulse of the times – highlights worthy of a great metropolis, with or (still) without the Elbphilharmonie building itself. There are about 100 Elbphilharmonie Concerts to look forward to in the 2010/2011 season. You can order tickets for each individual concert, either via this website or at the Elbphilharmonie Kulturcafé on Mönckebergstraße.
Seasonal Highlights
The corner stones of the Elbphilharmonie Concert series of 2010/2011 are the various concerts given by our »Artists in Residence«. The world-class conductor Mariss Jansons visits the Laeiszhalle with the two orchestras of which he is chief conductor: the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam and the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio. He will also appear with the Vienna Philharmonic. It doesn't get much better than that.
Star baritone Thomas Hampson is performing the entirety of Gustav Mahler's songs as part of the celebration of the double Mahler Jubilee in 2010/2011. Hampson's recitals are just part of the larger Mahler programme which we are offering. The Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski – loved by audiences and critics alike – gives four concerts with different partners. And by presenting the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, we offer you the most successful chamber orchestra active in Germany today. In the future they will be appearing more frequently in Hamburg.
This is the third year of the series Nordic Concerts which brings the best orchestras of the world to the Main Hall (Großer Saal) of the Laeiszhalle for guest appearances.
Following the introduction last season of the new cycle Voices by Thomas Quasthoff, this year we present four wonderful new singers.
Chamber Music will be spread out into four series in 2010/2011. Apart from the core cycle Kammermusik with its internationally acclaimed guests, and the cycle Rising Stars with young musicians at the start of their world careers, we offer a Schubertiade Hamburg dedicated to Franz Schubert and his great string quartets. And, finally, on Saturday afternoons, you can enjoy the Teatime Classics featuring promising young talent in the Brahms Foyer.
Elbphilharmonie Concerts for the Curious
An important element of the Elbphilharmonie Concerts is programmation offering works from beyond the classical canon and in search of new sound-experiences and sensual impressions; the series Elbphilharmonie at Kampnagel offers three projects in which classical music is presented in such a novel way. The cycle Jazz Piano also explores new territory, with five of the most exciting jazz piano-virtuosos at its centre. Fans of contemporary music can explore new acoustic frontiers in the series Don't Push the Sounds, and anyone interested in electronic music should try the concerts given in co-operation with the Körber-Forum at HafenCity, where the brand new joint series called ePhil is being performed. And let's not forget our two remarkable Festivals: one is the Hamburger Ostertöne under the banner »Brahms and Modernism«, the other presents a collection of rather extraordinary music from Finland. This is fittingly performed in a rather unusual location: our Rantakala will be held on Reeperbahn.
»Compass« – Discovering Music
A large part of our concert programme focuses on children, teenagers, young adults and families. From the 2010/2011 season, the educational programme of the Elbphilharmonie Concerts goes under the title of Compass. It offers something for all age groups from concerts for children with international artists to a percussion workshop for trainees, encounters with major stars of the classical music scene, the crazy Doc Sound and his »sound agents«, beautiful string music for babies, the new ElbCommunity, a newsletter for and by young adults, and much more.
